At the core of the educational experience lies confusion. Confusion about the unknown, how to learn, how to study, what to study, where to study and even why one should study. While, The process of education is about making the unknown known, the stages that make up that process are not straightforward. When thrust into the educational experience, no matter the stage, anxieties and unease are commonplace, often rooted in a lack of understanding. In particular, a lack of understanding linguistic, social and moral codes and processes.

This online blog/website format should help provide sources and examples to new architecture students who may be experiencing that confusion. It will explain some specific linguistic codes people may not understand or give them a better idea of what to expect while being an architecture student in quarantine. The goal is not only to give insight to the life of an architecture student and provide information I wish I’d known when entering architecture school – but also to address why we place so much importance on formality and educational norms.
