An educational mapping between Greece and Canada…
The base layer provides the initial background context of the map. Drawn on a solid sheet of cardstock, the diachronic and synchronic lines are introduced, and their weight is primitively introduced. This layer is meant to be obscured and blurred by following overlayed translucent sheets of plastic, creating a greater sense of depth when being viewed. The shadows of the lines and words drawn on the following maps are meant to drop onto this sheet with the use of directional lighting, strengthening the visual complexity of the map by accentuating the collage-like density. At the start of the diachronic timeline, the first educational tracings are found. By placing them at the
furthermost layer, they are lost and obscured in the background purposefully; they exist but cannot be recalled.
By injecting obscured items that sit outside of the life path, the map is disturbed; the act of veering off and outside of the confinement of the interlinked education items and information, external events are introduced along the timeline. The act of obscuring becomes a visual representation of forgetting. Certain elements are lost in time, but a faint reminder of their existence remains.
